Undoubtedly, some turned out to be the right person in the right place at the right time. However, they also had to have the right skills and abilities to build on the opportunities presented to them. Luck does open the avenues, the golden path of opportunities that leads to success. For instance, being born with a silver spoon in mouth is definitely not in one’s well hands, but how far do they go? The number of men (or women) with humble origins who have carved a niche for themselves outshine the number of those who have had affluent lineage to thank for. The epoch making scientists, the power magnet corporate, the charismatic leaders , the lauded achievers, noble laureates and other highly acclaimed professionals, poets, painters, writers and numerous others, men who shaped the course of destiny have been successful through sheer hard work and a pint of good luck. The skills and characteristics the great and influential leaders employed enabled them to identify and maximize the opportunities that presented themselves. These individuals may have been lucky in being at the right place at the right time, but far more was required to capitalize upon available opportunities, which were presented to them. Many others at the same time were presented with similar opportunities. Yet they failed to achieve similar levels of success. This was because they didn’t possess the same skills, competencies and knowledge to understand what was needed to grasp the significance of the opportunities, and the actions and practices to maximize them. Criteria for successful leader Inspiration A leader should motivate and enthuse followers in to action. However, in order to inspire followers, a leader must have a vision, belief, or cause that they champion. This vision can either be their own. In addition to having a cause or idea they strongly believe in, a leader must also be able to motivate and encourage others to adopt this cause as their own. To bring others to action, a leader must first garner trust from his or her followers. The leader’s followers must trust that the leader is leading them on a true and just path for change that the followers themselves want to occur. As part of building this trust, the leader’s ability to communicate his or her ideas and vision effectively and clearly is crucial. If followers cannot understand the leader’s mission or why they should also adopt this cause, the leader’s quest will be futile. Courage In addition to having or adopting a vision and being able to inspire followers around this vision, we believe that leaders must be courageous. They must be able and willing to defend their visions against both outside and internal attacks. Followers will immediately begin to lose faith in their leader if they see a leader without the courage to support an idea under trying times. Leaders must also have the courage to change and adapt their vision to respond to supportive ideas from others that benefit the vision or to shifts in the economic, political, or social landscape. Having courage to change can be particularly difficult if the leader has become attached to his or her own vision, but a good leader must recognize that modifying this vision can be beneficial to the leader, his or her organization, and the leader’s followers. Empathy Leaders must be empathetic; they must feel compassionate towards those who they are leading and must be able to understand the states and histories of their followers. Only by truly understanding their followers’ individual journeys and the backgrounds of each follower can a leader be most effective. Empathetic leaders can understand the root cause behind what is driving their followers’ actions, and empathetic leaders make people feel confident and capable, inspiring them to do more than they would on their own. Some of the most respected recent leaders have made empathy a key trait n their leadership style. By being empathetic and really understanding who their followers are and what their personal journeys have entailed, leaders can build a higher level of trust in their organizations, more commitment in their employees, and a more positive and productive workplace. Communication Knowing what you want accomplished may seem clear in your head, but if you try t o explain it to someone else and are met with a blank expression, you know there is a problem. If this has been your experience, then you may want to focus on honing your communication skills. Being able to clearly and succinctly describe what you want done is extremely important. If you can’t relate your vision to your team, you won’t all be working towards the same goal. Training new members and creating a productive work environment all depend on healthy lines of communication. Whether that stems from an open door policy to your office, or making it a point to talk to your staff on a daily basis, making yourself available to discuss interoffice issues is vital. Your team will learn to trust and depend on you, and will be less hesitant to work harder Honesty Whatever ethical plane you hold yourself to, when you are responsible for a team of people, it is important to raise the bar even higher. Your business and its employees are a reflection of yourself, and if you make honest and ethical behavior a key value, your team will follow suit. Promote a healthy interoffice lifestyle, and encourage your team to live up to these standards. By emphasizing these standards, and displaying them yourself, you will hopefully influence the office environment into a friendly and helpful workspace. Commitment If you expect your team to work hard and produce quality content, you’re going to need to lead by example. There is no greater motivation than seeing the boss down in the trenches working alongside everyone else, showing that hard work is being done on every level. By proving your commitment to the brand and your role, you will not only earn the respect of your team, but will also instill that same hardworking energy among your staff. It’s important to show your commitment not only to the work at hand, but also to your promises. If you pledged to host a holiday party, or uphold summer Fridays, keep your word. You want to create a reputation for not just working hard, but also been known as a fair leader. CONCLUSION As a conclusion, those leaders, which are Mahatma Ghandi, Jeff Bezos, Silvia Berlusconi and Kenneth Lay do have their own skills in leadership although some of them are success and some of them are not. Based on my research, Mahatma Ghandi and Jeff Bezos have similarities such as they both have high education background even with different course. This can be conclude, as a leader a person must have education and knowledge so that they able to lead an organization or country. Other than that, a leader needs to be a hardworking person in order for them to be success. In addition,both leader Silvia Berlusconi and Kenneth Lay involves in a number of court case that may be the factors of their failure. All leaders have similarities and differences between them. Other than that, are the success and the failure of those leaders are being predicted? For Mahatma Ghandi, He does not predicted that one day he will become a President of India and lead the nation. In addition, he only wanted to help their own people,so that they will not discriminate by other society in other country. In comparison, Kenneth Lay and the other peoples does not predicted the fraud will be revealed and result to his failure and bankcruptcy to the company. To being a success leader need to fullfill criteria. For example, inspiration, a leader should motivate and enthuse followers in to action. However, in order to inspire followers, a leader must have a vision, belief, or cause that they champion. This vision can either be their own. Leaders must be courageous. They must be able and willing to defend their visions against both outside and internal attacks. In addition, a successful leader must be honest, Whatever ethical plane you hold yourself to, when you are responsible for a team of people, it is important to raise the bar even higher. Your business and its employees are a reflection of yourself, and if you make honest and ethical behavior a key value, your team will follow suit.

Gays In The Miitary Essay Research Paper free essay sample

Homosexuals In The Miitary Essay, Research Paper Homosexuals in the Military The topic of Gays in the armed forces has been debated over many times by many people. When covering with whether or non homosexuals should be allowed in the military the simple inquiry of, Do they desire to be in the armed forces? , must be answered. After this inquiry is answered you can get down analysing the job. The reply to the inquiry, Do homosexuals desire to be in the armed forces? , is an undisputed yes. Gays would be proud and determined to protect this beautiful state in which we live. I personally am confused as to why there is even a inquiry of whether or non homosexuals should be allowed to protect and decease for a state they love. I do understand nevertheless the inquiry of where should they populate, both in the field and at their place base. We will write a custom essay sample on Gays In The Miitary Essay Research Paper or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page It is difficult for a adult male or adult females to acquire undressed in forepart of person of the same sex, that may be looking at them with different eyes. When I say different eyes I mean a adult male looking at a adult male and believing belly laugh he? s cute, or a adult females looking at a adult females and believing the same thing. It would be really awkward for non-gay soldiers to cover with this job. Any political issue trades with people, and the homosexuals in the military contention is no different. Joe Steffan was kicked out of Annapolis one hebdomad before graduation after uncovering he was homosexual. Alan Schindler was a cheery adult male in the Navy. He was viciously murdered when some of his shipmates found out he was cheery. Events like these can merely be avoided by instruction and communicating of what homosexualism is and how to cover with people who are homosexual. The segregation of homosexuals and tribades in the armed forces should be limited to populating quarters and that should be the extent of it. The followers is the 1993 National Board Policy on tribades and homosexuals in the armed forces ; 1993 National Board Policy LESBIANS AND GAYS IN THE MILITARY 2/93 WHEREAS, President Clinton has taken the first stairss toward stoping favoritism against tribades and cheery work forces in the armed forces ; and WHEREAS, the response to this modest enterprise has included a vitriolic, mean-spirited vilification run designed to further the feeling that tribades and homosexual work forces are undeserving of basic human rights and simple self-respect ; and WHEREAS, this black assault is straight linked to the go oning subjugation of adult females, members of racial and cultural minorities, and others viewed as being outside of the mainstream ; and WHEREAS, the actions of the disposal and Congress on this issue will supply a clear indicant of the deepness of their committedness to cardinal justness. Therefore, the National Organization for Women demands that President Clinton and Congress support an univocal prohibition on favoritism against tribades and cheery work forces in the military and that they reject such contemptuous options as segregated units and restricted responsibilities. Nothing less than full equality is acceptable. I do non believe that what this policy demands can be achieved because of natural human inclinations. I believe that segregating homosexuals from consecutive people is every bit cardinal as segregating work forces and adult females. If the homosexual and consecutive people? s life quarters are integrated so what about work forces and adult females? s life quarters, are they to be integrated excessively? I don? t see any statements about that, it seems that the separation of adult male and adult females has become such an built-in portion of our society that we have come to take as a norm. The sexual civilization of the U.S. today is highly terbulent for human gender and this is proven by the adversities that homosexuals and tribades go through on a twenty-four hours to twenty-four hours footing. On one manus you have the ? In group? which is non-gay people, and on the other manus we have the? Out group? which is the homosexual and sapphic community. This is a authoritative illustration of how a bias is used to maintain the out group down and out. This is because any civilization that tries to place and prosecute something every bit concealed as a secret homosexual individuality can merely make so by making a clime of fright and lip service. It must promote baseless accusals and it must subject below the belt accused people to brutal and destructive questions. In the instance of homosexuals, this must be done whether or non the suspected parties recognize themselves as homosexual or sapphic prior to the questions. Military illustrations of these questions sometimes sound like brainwashing. There are presently homosexuals in the armed forces. A prohibition can non maintain homosexuals out. There are merely as many homosexuals in the military as there are in civilian life. Patroling the armed forces to extinguish homosexualism does non eliminate homophiles but it does make a clime of anxiousness that causes a sexually toxic state of affairs for everyone, heterosexuals every bit good as homosexuals, because heterosexuals can be mislabeled as homosexual in our current military. Heterosexuals are besides able to maintain homosexuals down because of this anxiousness. The present position of our authorities on homosexuals in the armed forces is a policy foremost brought up by the Clinton disposal, and that is a policy of? Don? T ask, Don? T Tell? , intending that a individuals sexual orientation will stay secret. As we all know a individual? s sexual orientation can merely be kept secret for a certain sum of clip before it is revealed. The policy, which has been in consequence for some clip now, has been the authoritiess manner of covering with the job of homosexuals in the military. . The new prohibition said you could be gay in the military, every bit long as you neer allow it be known. Well, under the old one a soldier could ever be cheery every bit long as it was neer known. And under both prohibitions, you could be asked but need non state. And under both prohibitions, if you did state that you were homosexuals it would be evidences for discharge. So the homosexuals had thought they would win this conflict, but when the fume had cleared, the armed forces had clearly won. And this new prohibition, the new # 8216 ; Don # 8217 ; t inquire, wear # 8217 ; t state # 8217 ; prohibition, ended all the disturbance, all the promotion. All this policy has done has made homosexual people step back into their cupboards. The talk shows stopped speaking about homosexual rights. The newspapers stopped transporting front page narratives. The forces that had whipped it into a front page issue had lost steam There have been many other proposals but none have been as successful as the? Don? T ask, wear? t Tell? policy. I believe that this is a good policy for the clip being, but in the long tally this policy will non make. A new policy must be made, but before a new policy can be incorporated into the system the positions of the general populace must alteration and people must accept the fact that some people are different. Both George W. Bush and John McCain are stating they support the current # 8220 ; wear # 8217 ; t inquire, wear # 8217 ; t state # 8221 ; policy that lets homophiles serve in the military every bit long as they don # 8217 ; t unwrap their sexual orientation. This goes to demo that the issue of homosexuals in the armed forces has non yet been resolved and may non be for some clip now. Carney, Ralph M. , Herek, Gregory M. , Jobe, Jared B. Government has a Strong Role in Transformation of Modern HR Practice

Government has a Strong Role in Transformation of Modern HR Practice Introduction:Human resource management is a distinctive approach to employment management which seeks to achieve competitive advantage through the strategic deployment of a highly committed and capable workforce, using an array of cultural, structural and personnel techniques. Human Resources is still largely caught up in its traditional, transactional role, stated in different books and journals, but HR leaders are rethinking their structure, staffing models and required competencies for the eventual shift to a more strategic profession. HR people have to take the plunge and commit to measuring key business outcomes and not worry about who looks good or bad but focus on improvement.Companies are continuously changing and adapting to remain competitive, so the HR department has to adapt to these changes and be able to respond more rapidly to organizational change. HR needs to be seen as a strategic business partner that can add real value to the company and improve business competiti veness.The Seat of GovernmentToday, conventional government is being tested like never before. Issues such as pandemics, aging populations, climate change, rising citizen expectations and public safety are both global and local in nature. To address these types of complex challenges, public sector organizations at all levels need to transform in our country relating to the way they deliver services, internally and to citizens. We are seeing the emergence of a new model in the European and North American countries where government executives redefine their core responsibilities from managing people and programs to coordinating resources to produce public value. This new model of governing by network is characterized by the web of multiorganizational and multi-governmental relationships that increasingly constitute modern governance. Tackling such complex change demands a comprehensive and integrated approach. ¢Ã‚€Â ¢- these are the challenges that today's governments must addres s.The Government of Bangladesh should undergo significant transformation in the...

CASE 3 ETHICS - Physical Privacy Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words

CASE 3 ETHICS - Physical Privacy - Essay Example Utilitarianism focuses on the consequences of actions, and the consequences of suspending these two players are generally good, while Deontology understands that although people have rights to enhance themselves, they should do so within the bounds of law and integrity, to which they have duties of following. Utilitarians assert that an action is good, if it results to a net good for the greatest number of people, and severe penalties for artificially enhancing performance have widespread benefits to numerous stakeholders (Brooks & Dunn, 2010, p.183). First, the penalty respects the hard work of majority of athletes who do not use these enhancers. Using testosterone has been documented to have immediate physical and functioning effects on athletes, such as increased strength, agility, and speed (Lumpkin, Stoll, & Beller, 2012, p.154). Their former manager, Brian Cashman, says that he is not surprised that these athletes used testosterone. He said: â€Å"In Bartolo’s case, as well as he has done last year as well through this year, at his age, after coming back from that surgery, makes you scratch your head† (DelVecchio, 2012). As for Cabrera, Cashman’s comments were: â€Å"When we traded him to Atlanta we had him as a low-end, everyday regular or an excellent fourth outfielder† (DelVecchio, 2012). ... Sports must be about natural abilities that are improved through regular practice, discipline, and other â€Å"natural† efforts. If everyone followed the same practice of using enhancers, people would no longer know if the performance they see is â€Å"natural† or a product of drug enhancement. The â€Å"truth† and â€Å"reality† of sports will be shattered. This means that using testosterone can have negative effects on the perceptions of both athletes and sports. The penalties are just because they ensure that athletes would not succumb to similar practices and that the sports industry’s image will not be marred. With such a high penalty, other athletes will be discouraged of using enhancers. They will know that the harms to their income and career will outweigh the benefits. Third, using these enhancers has side effects (Lumpkin et al., 2012, p.154). They can experience â€Å"life-threatening problems such as extreme psychoses, heart disease, li ver and kidney damage, and cancer (Lumpkin et al., 2012, p.155). Other side effects are mood swings and uncontrollable aggression (Lumpkin et al., 2012, p.155). With these negative effects on athletes, it means that Cabrera and Colon are harming themselves. If the youth follows their enhancement practices, they will also be in peril. Thus, as role models who can detrimentally affect the sports industry and other athletes, Cabrera and Colon deserve a steep punishment. Deontology focuses on duty, not consequences, and Cabrera and Colon have duties to the sports industry, fellow athletes, and audience to follow rules and regulations (Ferrell et al., 2011, p.159). The sports industry has already banned the use of testosterone and other artificial enhancers because they are unethical. Cabrera and Colon are aware of these

Standard and Non-Standard English Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words

Standard and Non-Standard English - Essay Example Whether we like it or not, there exist some of variations of the English language. In America alone, a great deal of language variation can exist within the bilingual or English as a Second Language (ESL) classroom, in both English and in the non-English languages. In a bilingual setting in Los Angeles, one teacher identified three varieties of English and three varieties of Spanish in her classroom. Each variety carried with it information about social status and the cultural background of the speaker: Instruction officially went on in the standard forms of English and Spanish, but students used two other varieties of English-Black English and Chicano English-and two other versions of Spanish-Chicano Spanish and a rural northern Mexican variety (Ovando et al., 2002). Globally, Kachru (1992) had also revealed the varieties of English spoken worldwide on the basis of countries in which English is spoken. Kachru (1992) divided countries based into three types labelled the Inner, Outer and Expanding circles. Examples of the inner circle of essentially English-speaking countries include the USA, UK, Canada, New Zealand and Australia. Traditionally non-native speakers have looked to these varieties as providing standards and norms to which they are expected to conform. McArthur (1994) argues that there is now a fair degree of standardisation between many English-speaking nations. Not only the UK and the USA are fairly standardised in their English usage, but Australia, Canada, New Zealand and South Africa as well, fall into this group. Despite some level of standardisation, important differences remain. There are still many people from many regions who manifest significant divergence from the norms of "mainstream" English usage. Trompenaars (1993) summed up the essence of the problem: " as we all know, even the English and Americans are separated by a common language which is used quite differently in different contexts and which has some serious differences in the meanings of individual words" (p. 69). However, although there are regional differences within the native inner circle varieties, people who speak these regional variants have control of and understand the standard native variety of the country in which they reside. Problems in communication need not arise and therefore difficulties in communication between native speakers speaking different varieties of English will not be covered here. Moreover, the Outer Circle refers to countries where English functions as one of many languages and has an official (e.g. Nigeria), or an "associate official language" (India) status. English is used in these countries for a variety of purposes including educational, social, administrative and literary domains. Examples include Singapore, Malaysia and the Philippines. Countries in the Expanding Circle use English as an international language. The speakers do not have a colonial past and the English they learn is based on Inner Circle varieties. Speakers have differing degrees of competence, there are little in the form of shared norms, differences occur mainly in proficiency. In these countries (Japan, Korea, Taiwan, etc.) the number of users is increasing rapidly. The problem with standard and non-standard varieties of English in education is that grammar is usually sacrificed. This is because children learn the structure of the English language-its grammar- intuitively as they learn to talk;
